1. Early Life of Peshwa Bajirao I

Peshwa Bajirao I was born on 18 August 1700 in Shrivardhan, Konkan, into a respected Brahmin family. He was the son of Balaji Vishwanath Bhat, the first Peshwa of the Maratha Empire. From an early age, Bajirao received training in horse riding, military tactics, administration, and statecraft. He accompanied his father on several campaigns, gaining valuable practical experience in warfare and governance. His intelligence, courage, and leadership qualities became evident during his youth. These early experiences shaped him into a brilliant military commander and prepared him to play a crucial role in expanding the Maratha Empire.

2. Appointment as Peshwa

After the death of his father, Balaji Vishwanath, in 1720, Bajirao was appointed Peshwa by Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj. He was only twenty years old at the time, making his appointment a bold decision. Many nobles doubted his abilities because of his young age and limited administrative experience. However, Shahu Maharaj trusted Bajirao’s intelligence and leadership skills. Bajirao quickly proved his critics wrong through successful military campaigns and effective governance. His appointment marked the beginning of a new era in Maratha history, during which the empire expanded significantly and became a major political force in India.
