1. Early Life of Maharana Pratap
Maharana Pratap was born on 9 May 1540 at Kumbhalgarh Fort in Mewar, present-day Rajasthan. He was the eldest son of Maharana Udai Singh II and Maharani Jaiwanta Bai. Belonging to the Sisodia Rajput dynasty, he was raised with values of courage, honor, and patriotism. From childhood, he received training in horse riding, swordsmanship, archery, and military strategy. His fearless nature and strong sense of self-respect made him a natural leader. Maharana Pratap grew up determined to protect the independence of Mewar and became one of the most respected warriors in Indian history.
2. Ascension to the Throne
After the death of Maharana Udai Singh II, Maharana Pratap ascended the throne of Mewar on 28 February 1572. At that time, much of northern India was under the control of Mughal Emperor Akbar. Many Rajput rulers had accepted Mughal authority, but Maharana Pratap firmly refused to surrender Mewar’s independence. He pledged to dedicate his life to protecting his kingdom and preserving Rajput honor. His coronation marked the beginning of a long struggle against Mughal expansion. Through determination and courage, he became a symbol of resistance, inspiring his people to stand united in defense of their freedom.
