1. Herodotus (Father of Geography)

Herodotus is known as the Father of Geography. He wrote The Histories, describing lands, peoples, climates, rivers, and customs. He emphasized observation and collection of facts from different regions. His work laid the foundation of descriptive geography and helped develop geographical knowledge in the ancient world.

2. Strabo (Father of Regional Geography)

Strabo is regarded as the Father of Regional Geography. His famous work Geographica provided detailed descriptions of the known world. He studied the relationship between humans and the environment and divided the world into regions, emphasizing regional characteristics and geographical diversity.

3. Claudius Ptolemy (Father of Mathematical Geography)

Claudius Ptolemy is known as the Father of Mathematical Geography. He introduced latitude and longitude to locate places accurately. His book Geographia explained coordinate systems and map-making techniques. Ptolemy’s ideas became the basis of cartography and influenced geographical studies for many centuries.

4. Al-Idrisi (Father of Modern Geography)

Al-Idrisi is often called the Father of Modern Geography. He wrote Kitab al-Rujār (Book of Roger), providing detailed information about countries, climates, trade routes, and people. His maps were highly accurate for their time and greatly improved geographical understanding during the medieval period.

5. Alexander von Humboldt (Father of Physical Geography)

Alexander von Humboldt is known as the Father of Physical Geography. He emphasized the unity of nature and studied the relationship among climate, vegetation, soil, landforms, and human life. His works, including Cosmos, established geography as a scientific discipline and inspired modern environmental studies.
