1) Six passengers killed while crossing track at Chunar station (U.P.)

A tragic incident occurred at Chunar railway station in Mirzapur district, Uttar Pradesh, where six passengers—mostly women and two minors—lost their lives while crossing the tracks after disembarking from the Gomo–Prayagraj Express. The group had reportedly come to take a holy dip in the Ganga on Kartik Purnima and attempted to cross from the wrong side, when another train passed through an adjacent platform, leading to their fatal injuries. Local authorities initiated an investigation and restored normal rail movement soon after. A safety advisory was issued to prevent recurrence. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep grief, extended condolences, and directed officials to expedite relief measures. The accident highlights persistent gaps in passenger awareness, the dangers of unauthorized track-crossing, and inadequate station-level infrastructure—issues that demand better fencing, signage, and last-mile safety mechanisms to prevent further loss of life.
