1. India at the G20: Global Energy Crisis and Strategic Autonomy
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar raised concerns about global energy-market instability at the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Atlanta. He argued that sanctions, maritime chokepoints and attacks on energy infrastructure were making oil and gas supplies increasingly unpredictable. According to India's position, disruptions in energy trade disproportionately affect developing economies because higher fuel prices increase transportation, fertiliser and food costs. Jaishankar emphasised India's need for reliable LPG supplies, open energy markets and greater international cooperation. He also proposed a G20 Critical Minerals Circularity Initiative, covering mineral exploration, recycling and sustainable supply chains. Economic logic: Energy security depends not only on production but also on transportation routes, affordability and geopolitical stability. India's stand: International energy markets should remain accessible, reliable and predictable, without discriminatory restrictions. Gist: India's energy diplomacy combines strategic autonomy, affordable energy, critical-mineral security and protection of the economic interests of developing countries.
