1. President’s rule ends in Manipur; new CM sworn in
After months of President’s rule imposed amid ethnic violence, Manipur finally saw a return to elected government as BJP leader Yumnam Khemchand Singh was sworn in Chief Minister. Two Deputy Chief Ministers, Nemcha Kipgen from the Kuki-Zo community and Losii Dikho from the Naga People’s Front, joined the council, clearly designed as a power-sharing formula between valley Meiteis and hill groups. The Governor’s address and the BJP’s central leadership emphasised peace, rehabilitation and development as the new government’s priorities.
