1. Tawa River – A Major Tributary of the Narmada

The Tawa River is one of the most important tributaries of the Narmada River in central India. Flowing entirely through Madhya Pradesh, it contributes significantly to the Narmada basin's water resources. The river supports agriculture, fisheries, irrigation, and local livelihoods across the region. It drains a large part of the Satpura hills and serves as a vital source of freshwater for nearby settlements. 2. Origin of the Tawa River

The Tawa River originates in the Satpura Range near Betul district in Madhya Pradesh. The Satpura Mountains are among the major hill systems of central India and act as an important watershed region. Numerous streams and seasonal rivulets emerging from these forested hills join together to form the Tawa River. The area receives substantial monsoon rainfall, which sustains the river throughout the year. The forests around the source region support rich biodiversity and help regulate water flow. The river's origin in the Satpura hills gives it a significant role in maintaining ecological balance and regional water security.

The Tawa River is the longest tributary of the Narmada River, with a length of approximately 172 kilometers.
