The Government of India has launched the Nirbhay Chetna Initiative under the Nirbhaya Raho programme to sensitise nearly 17.5 lakh elected male representatives across the country. 2. About Nirbhay Chetna Initiative

Nirbhay Chetna is a first-of-its-kind national initiative launched under the Nirbhaya Raho programme and funded through the Nirbhaya Fund. It is implemented by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj to promote gender-responsive governance in rural India. The initiative focuses on sensitising elected male representatives about women's safety, gender equality, and legal rights. The Nirbhay Chetna Initiative has several important objectives aimed at promoting gender equality and women's empowerment. 4. Target Beneficiaries

The primary beneficiaries of the Nirbhay Chetna Initiative are approximately 17.5 lakh elected male representatives serving in Panchayati Raj Institutions across India. These representatives include members at village, block, and district levels who play a significant role in local governance. By educating and sensitising these leaders about gender equality and women's rights, the programme aims to influence community attitudes and decision-making processes. 5. Master Trainers

To successfully implement the Nirbhay Chetna Initiative, around 28,500 Master Trainers are being developed at the State, District, and Block levels. These trainers are responsible for educating elected male representatives on gender equality, women's rights, legal provisions, and respectful behaviour. They conduct workshops, awareness programmes, and capacity-building sessions to strengthen grassroots leadership. The Master Trainers ensure that knowledge reaches every Panchayati Raj Institution effectively and consistently. 6. Implementing Ministry

The Ministry of Panchayati Raj is the implementing ministry of the Nirbhay Chetna Initiative. 7. Funding Source

9. Nirbhay Chetna

Technology-based monitoring also supports law enforcement agencies in preventing criminal activities and maintaining community safety. 12. About Nirbhaya Fund

The Nirbhaya Fund was established by the Government of India in 2013 following the recommendations of the Justice Verma Committee after the 2012 Delhi incident. Its primary objective is to finance projects that improve women's safety and security across the country. Managed by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the fund supports initiatives such as women's helplines, One Stop Centres, safe city projects, emergency response systems, surveillance infrastructure, and gender sensitisation programmes. The fund plays a vital role in promoting innovative measures that ensure safer environments and greater protection for women.
