1. What is Football?

Football, also known as soccer in some countries, is the world's most popular sport. It is played between two teams of eleven players each on a rectangular grass or artificial turf field. The objective is to score goals by kicking the ball into the opponent's goal. Players mainly use their feet, while goalkeepers are allowed to use their hands within the penalty area. Football requires teamwork, skill, speed, strategy, and fitness. The game is enjoyed by millions of players and billions of fans worldwide. Its simplicity, excitement, and universal appeal have made football a truly global sport.

2. History of Football

Modern football originated in England during the nineteenth century. In 1863, the Football Association (FA) was established to standardize the rules of the game. The first official international football match was played between England and Scotland in 1872. To govern football globally, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) was founded in 1904 in Paris. The first FIFA World Cup took place in 1930 in Uruguay and marked the beginning of international football tournaments. Since then, football has grown into the world's most popular sport, with professional leagues, international competitions, and passionate supporters across every continent.

3. Football Field Dimensions

A football field is rectangular in shape and designed according to international standards. The length typically ranges from 90 to 120 meters, while the width ranges from 45 to 90 meters. A halfway line divides the field into two equal halves. At the center is the center circle, where matches begin and restart after goals. Goalposts are placed at each end of the field. Other important markings include the penalty area, goal area, corner arcs, and touchlines. These markings help referees enforce rules and ensure fair play. Proper field dimensions are essential for professional football competitions worldwide.

4. Major Rules of Football

Football is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game. A standard match lasts ninety minutes, divided into two halves of forty-five minutes each, with a fifteen-minute halftime break. Each team consists of eleven players, including one goalkeeper. Players score by sending the ball into the opponent's goal. Fouls can result in free kicks, penalty kicks, yellow cards, or red cards. The offside rule prevents players from gaining unfair positional advantages. Teams are allowed substitutions according to competition regulations. These rules ensure fairness, safety, and competitive balance throughout the game.
