1. What is Football?
Football, also known as soccer in some countries, is the world's most popular sport. It is played between two teams of eleven players each on a rectangular grass or artificial turf field. The objective is to score goals by kicking the ball into the opponent's goal. Players mainly use their feet, while goalkeepers are allowed to use their hands within the penalty area. Football requires teamwork, skill, speed, strategy, and fitness. The game is enjoyed by millions of players and billions of fans worldwide. Its simplicity, excitement, and universal appeal have made football a truly global sport.
2. History of Football
Modern football originated in England during the nineteenth century. In 1863, the Football Association (FA) was established to standardize the rules of the game. The first official international football match was played between England and Scotland in 1872. To govern football globally, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) was founded in 1904 in Paris. The first FIFA World Cup took place in 1930 in Uruguay and marked the beginning of international football tournaments. Since then, football has grown into the world's most popular sport, with professional leagues, international competitions, and passionate supporters across every continent.
