1. Execution of Government Business in the Name of the President
Article 77(1) of the Constitution states that all executive actions of the Government of India shall be expressed to be taken in the name of the President. Although the President is the constitutional head of the Union, actual executive powers are exercised by the Council of Ministers headed by the Prime Minister. This provision ensures constitutional legitimacy and uniformity in government actions. Every major executive decision, order, notification, and administrative action is formally issued in the President’s name. It symbolizes the unity and authority of the Union Government and ensures that governmental decisions follow constitutional procedures.
