Uniform Civil Code (UCC)
The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) refers to a common set of civil laws governing personal matters such as marriage, divorce, adoption, inheritance, and succession, applicable equally to all citizens regardless of religion, caste, or community. At present, these matters in India are governed by religion-based personal laws such as Hindu, Muslim, Christian, and Parsi personal laws. The UCC aims to replace these diverse legal frameworks with a uniform legal structure ensuring equality before the law.
