TEN CRITICAL QUESTIONS ON CURRENT GEOPLOITICAL AND NATIONAL ISSUES -8
1. How does the West Asia conflict show that national security today is inseparable from economic security?
The current conflict demonstrates that modern national security extends well beyond military defence. Disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and wider Gulf logistics have affected LPG, LNG, aviation fuel, fertiliser inputs, and inflation expectations in India. That is why the Cabinet Committee on Security reportedly focused not only on strategic developments, but also on food prices, energy sourcing, anti-hoarding measures, and supply continuity. A mature security doctrine must therefore include maritime routes, commodity resilience, price management, and citizen welfare. In the present era, geopolitical shocks become domestic governance challenges almost immediately.
2. Why may oil prices remain elevated even if active hostilities in West Asia decline?
Oil markets do not normalize the moment shooting slows. The reports suggest that shipping contracts, marine insurance, refinery adjustments, and damaged infrastructure take time to recover. In addition, countries using strategic petroleum reserves during crisis phases may later return to the market to rebuild inventories, keeping demand elevated. There is also the possibility of new transactional costs or route-related risks in narrow Gulf passages. Therefore, oil pricing is shaped not only by current conflict intensity but by expectations, infrastructure confidence, and restoration timelines. Political ceasefire headlines may arrive far earlier than genuine market stability.
