TEN CRITICAL QUESTIONS ON CURRENT GEOPLOITICAL AND NATIONAL ISSUES – 225
Q1. The US midterm elections have reportedly changed the balance of power in Congress. How should India manage its relationship with the United States when the President and Congress belong to different political parties?
Answer: Sir/Ma'am, India should maintain strong relations with American institutions rather than depending on any particular political party. The President plays a major role in foreign policy, but Congress influences budgets, trade legislation, immigration and defence cooperation. India should therefore engage with both political parties, congressional committees, businesses and research institutions. Differences over tariffs, visas or energy imports should be addressed through regular dialogue. India must also protect its strategic autonomy while expanding cooperation in defence and technology. My view is that a mature foreign policy should remain stable despite political changes abroad. Long-term national interests must guide India's diplomatic relationships.
Q2. The government has reportedly modified the Agnipath scheme to provide additional service opportunities to Agniveers. Can this reform balance military efficiency with employment security?
