TEN CRITICAL QUESTIONS ON CURRENT GEOPLOITICAL AND NATIONAL ISSUES – 210
Q1. The United States has reportedly offered Venezuelan oil as an alternative to Russian crude. Should India accept this proposal?
Answer: Sir/Ma'am, India should examine the proposal on economic and strategic grounds rather than accept or reject it because of political pressure. Venezuelan oil could diversify India's energy supplies. However, its price, quality, transportation costs, refinery compatibility and applicable sanctions must be considered. India should maintain constructive relations with the United States while protecting its freedom to purchase energy from commercially suitable sources. In the long term, renewable energy and domestic capabilities can reduce external dependence. My view is that strategic autonomy means making independent decisions based on affordability, reliability and national interest, not opposing or supporting any country automatically.
