TEN CRITICAL QUESTIONS ON CURRENT GEOPLOITICAL AND NATIONAL ISSUES – 137
1. Why has the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls become a major democratic issue?
Answer: Electoral-roll revision is necessary to remove duplicate, deceased or ineligible voters. However, when more than 1.5 crore names are deleted, the risk of wrongful exclusion becomes serious. In my view, electoral integrity and voter inclusion must advance together. Every deletion should be supported by clear reasons, adequate notice and an easy appeal process. Migrants, poor citizens and people with weak documentation should not lose voting rights because of administrative difficulty. A clean voter list is important, but universal adult franchise is equally important. Therefore, the Election Commission must ensure both accuracy and accessibility.
2. How should India respond to the possibility of 100% U.S. tariffs over its purchase of Russian oil?
