Question 1. The Strait of Hormuz crisis has once again exposed India's vulnerability to geopolitical conflicts. How should India balance strategic neutrality with protection of its national interests?
Answer: India should follow the principle of strategic autonomy rather than taking sides in regional conflicts. Our foremost priority should be the safety of Indian citizens, uninterrupted energy supplies and protection of global trade routes. India should continue diplomatic engagement with all stakeholders while supporting international law and freedom of navigation. At the same time, India must diversify its sources of crude oil, strengthen strategic petroleum reserves and enhance naval preparedness in the Indian Ocean. A balanced foreign policy allows India to protect its interests without becoming part of military alliances. In today's interconnected world, neutrality should mean active diplomacy, not passive silence.
Question 2. Repeated attacks on commercial ships show that maritime security has become an economic issue. Do you agree?
