The Samudra Sahas expedition is a landmark sailing initiative launched by the Regiment of Artillery to commemorate its bicentenary (1827–2027). Flagged off from Marve, Mumbai, the expedition reflects the Indian Army’s efforts to expand operational exposure beyond conventional domains.
Salient Features: The expedition covers approximately 520 nautical miles along the Konkan Coast in four legs—Mumbai to Vijaydurg, onward to Goa, return to Vijaydurg, and back to Mumbai. It uses 21-foot Seabird-class sailing boats and is led by Captain Kshitij Nair and Subedar Prakash Funde. The crew underwent intensive preparation at the Heavy Bridge Training Centre, Marve. It is the first “Blue Water” sailing expedition by an artillery regiment, testing endurance against open sea conditions and variable wind patterns.
