The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research–National Aerospace Laboratories (CSIR-NAL), Bengaluru has successfully completed the design phase of the indigenous SARAS Mk-II light transport aircraft. The programme has now entered the prototype manufacturing and assembly stage, with the first prototype rollout and flight testing targeted for December 2027.
Background
The SARAS Mk-II is an upgraded 19-seat version of the earlier 14-seat SARAS aircraft, designed and developed by CSIR-NAL. The project aims to strengthen India's indigenous civil aviation capabilities and reduce dependence on imported light transport aircraft. It supports the national vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat by promoting domestic aircraft design, manufacturing, and aerospace innovation.
