Introduction
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, chaired by Shashi Tharoor, has recommended that the Government of India appoint a dedicated Polar Ambassador to strengthen India's engagement in the Arctic and Antarctic regions. The committee also proposed establishing a Polar and Antarctic Affairs Desk in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The recommendation reflects India's growing strategic, scientific, environmental, and geopolitical interests in the polar regions.
