NATIONAL HONOUR INSULT PREVENTION (AMENDMENT) BILL, 2026
Background
The National Honour Insult Prevention (Amendment) Bill, 2026, passed unanimously by Parliament during the Monsoon Session on 30 July 2026, amends the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971. The amendment extends statutory protection to the National Song, "Vande Mataram," placing it on the same legal footing as the National Anthem, "Jana Gana Mana," regarding protection against intentional disruption or insult during public performances.
