The NH-GCI is a quantitative indicator designed to measure the percentage of vegetation or green cover within the Right of Way (RoW) of national highways. The initiative has been developed by NHAI in collaboration with the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) of ISRO. It aligns with the objectives of the Green Highways Policy, 2015, which seeks to balance infrastructure expansion with environmental protection through plantation drives, landscape improvement, and ecological conservation along highways.
