INS Dunagiri (Project 17A): India’s Indigenous Stealth Frigate
The induction of INS Dunagiri, the fifth stealth frigate under Project 17A (Nilgiri-class), marks a major milestone in India’s naval modernisation and indigenous shipbuilding capability. Built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers in Kolkata, it is a guided missile stealth frigate designed by the Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau. Named after the Dunagiri mountain range in Uttarakhand, it continues the legacy of the earlier INS Dunagiri (1977–2010).
