According to the Crisil Thalinomics Report, the average vegetarian thali became 10% cheaper and the non-vegetarian thali 6% cheaper year-on-year in September 2025. A vegetarian thali cost ₹28.17, down from ₹31.30 in September 2024, while a non-vegetarian thali cost ₹56, compared to ₹59.30 last year.
The decline was driven mainly by falling prices of potatoes (–31%), onions (–46%), tomatoes (–8%), and dal (–16%). These four items form nearly 25% of veg thali cost. Large cold-storage releases, good Rabi output, and improved market supply caused this fall. However, some offset came from rising vegetable oil prices (+21%) and LPG (+6%).
