India Ranks 3rd Globally with 125 GW Solar Power Capacity

India has achieved a major renewable energy milestone by becoming the third-largest solar power producer globally, with an installed solar capacity of around 125 GW as of September 2025. Solar power now contributes nearly 48% of India’s non-fossil fuel energy portfolio and about 49% of total power capacity, reflecting a structural shift in India’s energy mix. In FY 2024–25 alone, India added nearly 23.83 GW of solar capacity, with rapid gains in utility-scale, rooftop, hybrid, and off-grid installations.

Key solar-leading states include Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu, with Gujarat adding about 6,632 MW in 2025. The Bhadla Solar Park in Rajasthan (2,245 MW) continues to be India’s largest solar installation, symbolising India’s ultra-mega solar ambit
