The India–Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline (IBFP) is an important cross-border energy infrastructure project connecting Siliguri in West Bengal (India) with Parbatipur in Dinajpur (Bangladesh). The project was conceptualized to strengthen energy cooperation and regional connectivity between the two neighbouring countries. The foundation of the project was laid in 2017 when Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) and Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) signed a long-term diesel supply agreement. The pipeline was formally inaugurated on 18 March 2023 by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the then Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The pipeline has a total length of 131.5 km, of which about 5 km lies in India and 126.5 km in Bangladesh. It transports High-Speed Diesel (HSD) from the Numaligarh Refinery in Assam, routed through the Siliguri marketing terminal, directly to the Parbatipur depot in Bangladesh. The pipeline currently has a capacity of 1 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA), which may be expanded in the future depending on demand.
