Context
Hurricane Lala passed extremely close to Hawaii’s Big Island on 15 August 2026, bringing destructive winds, exceptional rainfall, flash floods and widespread power disruption. The system strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane, with sustained winds around 120–130 km/h, before weakening as it moved northwest across the island chain.
