Background
Rapid urbanization, increasing vehicle ownership, and traffic congestion have created significant mobility challenges in Chennai. To address these issues, the Government of Tamil Nadu launched the ITS project with financial assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The project is being implemented by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) under a joint venture model.
