1. India–Uzbekistan elevate their strategic partnership
India and Uzbekistan decided to upgrade bilateral ties into a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, setting an ambitious target of $5 billion in annual trade by 2030. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev identified cooperation in mining, tourism, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, jewellery, critical minerals, infrastructure, education and digital public infrastructure as priority areas. India also agreed to establish a framework for the long-term supply of uranium from Uzbekistan, giving the relationship an important energy-security dimension. Both countries intend to promote joint ventures, integrated value chains and greater business-to-business engagement. Uzbekistan’s location at the heart of Central Asia gives it considerable strategic significance for India’s wider regional outreach. The logic behind deeper ties combines energy security, market diversification, connectivity and geopolitical engagement with Central Asia. The agreement indicates a shift from primarily diplomatic engagement towards measurable economic outcomes. Implementation, however, will depend upon transport connectivity, payment mechanisms, private-sector participation and sustained political coordination between the two countries.
