1. Ditwah-Driven Rain Batters South Tamil Nadu
Cyclone Ditwah brought intense and prolonged rainfall across south and delta districts of Tamil Nadu, severely impacting agriculture, housing, and infrastructure. According to reports, vast tracts of paddy fields in Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur and Mayiladuthurai were submerged, with over 22,000 hectares inundated, crippling standing crops at a critical growth stage. Coastal belts, including Vedaranyam and Kodiyakarai, saw inundation of salt pans, causing livelihood disruptions. Intermittent rain reached Chennai as the cyclone moved parallel to the coast, prompting discharge of reservoirs and flood alerts in downstream areas.
