1. India–China Border Tensions: MEA Acknowledges Disturbances Along the LAC
India's Ministry of External Affairs acknowledged that the Line of Actual Control (LAC) had been disturbed by the behaviour of China's People's Liberation Army (PLA). The statement followed remarks by ITBP Director-General Shatrujeet Kapur about continuing face-offs between Indian and Chinese personnel in Arunachal Pradesh. The LAC is the effective military control line between India and China, but the two countries differ in their perceptions of its alignment. These differences frequently generate patrol confrontations and diplomatic tensions. India maintains that peace and tranquillity along the border are essential for normal bilateral relations. The Ministry emphasised existing diplomatic and military mechanisms for resolving disagreements and preventing misunderstandings. The issue also highlights the importance of border infrastructure, surveillance and military preparedness. Gist: India–China border management requires both strategic vigilance and sustained diplomacy. Clear communication, confidence-building measures and adherence to bilateral agreements are necessary to prevent local incidents from escalating into wider conflict.
