1. Centre clarifies no move to introduce Bill altering Chandigarh’s governance
The Union Home Ministry’s clarification that it does not intend to introduce the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill in the Winter Session came after strong political backlash in Punjab. The earlier Lok Sabha Bulletin had listed a proposal that would align Chandigarh with other Union Territories by allowing appointment of a full-time Lieutenant-Governor. Parties across Punjab—Congress, SAD, AAP—criticised this as an infringement on the historical arrangement under the Punjab Reorganisation Act, 1966.
