1. Supreme Court Recalls Verdict on Retrospective Green Clearances
The Supreme Court’s latest 2:1 judgment recalling its May 16 ruling on retrospective environmental clearances marks a major legal shift. The majority, led by Chief Justice B.R. Gavai, held that nullifying such clearances would have a “devastating effect” on public infrastructure and ongoing construction, potentially wasting thousands of crores already invested. The CJI emphasised that judicial precedents allow ex post facto clearances in exceptional circumstances when public interest outweighs strict procedural violations.
