1. Supreme Court on Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls
The Supreme Court asked the Election Commission of India to adopt a “sympathetic view” while deciding petitions seeking extension of the enumeration phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The Court emphasised “ground realities” such as large populations, administrative capacity, and risk of genuine voters being excluded. Petitioners from Uttar Pradesh and Kerala argued that the exercise was rushed despite elections being due only in 2027. The Election Commission maintained that it was already monitoring the situation and had granted extensions earlier, urging judicial restraint.
