1. Supreme Court opposes the use of SIR data for non-electoral purposes
The Supreme Court expressed serious reservations over the use of data collected during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls for purposes unrelated to elections. Hearing petitions concerning the exercise, the Court observed that voter registration data should remain confined to electoral administration and should not become a tool for determining citizenship, welfare eligibility or other executive functions. The concern arises because electoral databases contain sensitive personal information collected under a specific legal mandate.
