1. SC seeks full disclosure by High Courts on delay in judgment delivery
The Supreme Court firmly highlighted the need for transparency and accountability in judicial functioning, directing all High Courts to disclose, on their websites, the time taken by judges to pronounce reserved judgments. The order arose from a plea by life convicts whose appeals remained pending for years after being reserved by the Jharkhand High Court. Recognising that excessive delays affect justice delivery and public trust, the Bench under Justice Surya Kant stressed that the public has a legitimate expectation to know when judgments are reserved, delivered, and uploaded.
