1. AI-Powered Anganwadi in Maharashtra: Bridging the Digital Divide
In a pioneering initiative under the "Mission Bal Bharari," Maharashtra’s Nagpur Zilla Parishad has launched India’s first AI-enabled anganwadi in Waddhamna village. Equipped with virtual reality (VR) headsets, AI-powered smartboards, and tablets, this center has increased child attendance and engagement dramatically. Anganwadi workers were trained with a user-friendly digital module by Qolaba, a tech partner under the IndiaAI programme. The system uses gamified learning and generative AI tools to customize education, track learning progress, and even assess nutrition using real-time data from the Poshan Tracker. This model, inaugurated by CM Devendra Fadnavis, aims to replicate urban digital exposure in rural early education settings. The pilot’s success has attracted attention, with plans to expand it to 40 more anganwadis. The effort signals a broader vision to use AI not just for education, but for holistic child development and governance transparency across rural India.
