1. Supreme Court Considers Independent Probe into Police Excesses
The Supreme Court considered constituting a Special Investigation Team for a completely independent, transparent and fair investigation into alleged police excesses during demonstrations against examination paper leaks in Delhi and several states. The Court ordered the release of detained minors without criminal antecedents, protected protesting students from coercive measures and directed preservation of CCTV, drone, body-camera and police communication records. The logic is that an investigation becomes meaningful only when responsibility is fixed on both violent infiltrators and public officials who may have exceeded lawful authority.
