1. Justice Varma’s removal: Process to begin, Speaker to name probe panel
The Lok Sabha Speaker is set to initiate the removal process of Justice Yashwant Varma by naming a statutory committee to probe allegations of unaccounted cash recovery from his residence. This follows the Rajya Sabha Chairman’s controversial move to acknowledge the Opposition's impeachment notice—leading to Vice President Dhankhar’s abrupt resignation. Legal experts clarified that simultaneous motions in both Houses require committee formation by both presiding officers, but procedural confusion ensued as Dhankhar allegedly did not “admit” the motion formally.
