1. NEET-UG Retest: Restoring Credibility to Competitive Examinations
The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the NEET-UG retest for nearly 22.79 lakh candidates after allegations of a paper leak led to the cancellation of the May 3 examination. Extensive preparations were completed within 38 days, including fresh question paper setting, translation, printing, transportation and security arrangements. Aadhaar-based biometric verification, GPS-tracked transportation and enhanced police deployment were introduced. The logic behind these measures is to restore confidence in a system that forms the gateway to medical education. The editorial lesson is that examination integrity is as important as academic merit. A transparent, secure and accountable testing system is essential for social mobility and public trust. The stand emerging from the coverage is that while retests impose emotional and financial costs on students, institutional credibility cannot be compromised. The gist is that educational governance requires both technological safeguards and accountability mechanisms to ensure fairness.
2. Iran, Strait of Hormuz and Global Energy Security
