1. Government suffers first major legislative defeat over amended women’s quota Bill
The most significant political development is the defeat of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026 in the Lok Sabha. The Bill sought to operationalise 33% reservation for women in an expanded Lok Sabha and state Assemblies while also facilitating delimitation.
