1. Independence Day Address: Youth at the Centre of Viksit Bharat 2047
Prime Minister Narendra Modi placed “yuva shakti” at the centre of his 80th Independence Day address, delivered in the backdrop of recent student protests over examination irregularities. He announced an extensive network for free online coaching for competitive examinations, a programme to train one crore young people in AI skills within a year, and a nationwide talent hunt for children aged 5–16 to prepare sporting talent for India’s proposed 2036 Olympics bid. Modi also broadened the idea of employment beyond conventional government jobs to startups, aviation, drones, AI, electric vehicles, sports and the bio-economy. The underlying logic is that India’s demographic dividend will yield results only if youth aspirations are matched by skills, opportunities and institutional fairness. The government’s stand is to convert youth from welfare beneficiaries into agents of change. The gist is that Viksit Bharat will ultimately depend on whether education, employment and emerging technologies generate credible upward mobility for India’s young population.
