1. What is Unwanted 72?

Unwanted 72 is an emergency contraceptive pill (ECP) that contains Levonorgestrel 1.5 mg, a synthetic form of the hormone progesterone. It is used to reduce the chance of pregnancy after unprotected sexual intercourse or when a regular contraceptive method has failed, such as a broken condom or missed birth control pills. It is intended for emergency use only and should not be used as a regular contraceptive. The pill is most effective when taken as early as possible after intercourse. It does not terminate an existing pregnancy and is not an abortion pill.

2. When to Take Unwanted 72?

Unwanted 72 should be taken as soon as possible after unprotected sexual intercourse or contraceptive failure. It is effective when taken within 72 hours (3 days), but its effectiveness is highest if taken within the first 24 hours. Delaying the dose reduces its ability to prevent pregnancy. Although it can work up to 72 hours after intercourse, earlier use provides the best protection. If vomiting occurs within two hours after taking the pill, another dose may be required. Emergency contraception should only be used occasionally and not as a replacement for regular birth control methods.

3. Dose

The recommended dose of Unwanted 72 is one tablet containing 1.5 mg of Levonorgestrel, taken as a single oral dose. It may be taken with or without food. There is no need to divide the tablet into multiple doses. The medicine should be swallowed with water as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse. Taking more than the recommended dose does not improve its effectiveness and may increase side effects. If vomiting occurs within two hours after taking the tablet, another tablet should be taken. Always follow medical advice or the product instructions for safe use.

4. Mechanism of Action

Unwanted 72 works mainly by delaying or preventing ovulation, which stops the release of an egg from the ovary. It contains a high dose of Levonorgestrel, which suppresses or delays the luteinizing hormone (LH) surge required for ovulation. It also thickens the cervical mucus, making it more difficult for sperm to reach the egg. In addition, it changes the uterine lining, making it less suitable for implantation if fertilization has occurred. However, it does not interrupt an established pregnancy and is ineffective once implantation has already taken place.
