1. Malwa Plateau

The Malwa Plateau is located in western and central India, mainly covering parts of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. It is a volcanic plateau formed by basaltic lava flows associated with the Deccan Traps. The plateau has fertile black soil, making it suitable for agriculture. Crops such as wheat, soybean, cotton, and pulses are widely cultivated here. Rivers like the Chambal, Betwa, and Kali Sindh originate from this region. The plateau has an average elevation of 500–600 meters above sea level. Ujjain and Indore are important cities situated on the Malwa Plateau, which is economically significant.

2. Bundelkhand Plateau

The Bundelkhand Plateau lies between the Yamuna River and the Vindhyan Hills, covering parts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. It is composed mainly of ancient granite and gneiss rocks, making it one of India's oldest geological regions. The plateau has a rugged terrain with rocky outcrops and low hills. Water scarcity and drought are common problems due to limited rainfall and poor groundwater availability. Agriculture remains the primary occupation, with crops such as wheat, pulses, and oilseeds being cultivated. Jhansi, Sagar, and Chhatarpur are important towns associated with the Bundelkhand Plateau region.
