Shams-ud-din Iltutmish was born around 1211 CE in a Turkic family, possibly in the region of Ilbari Turkestan. During his childhood, he was sold into slavery and later purchased by Qutb-ud-din Aibak, the founder of the Delhi Sultanate. Recognizing his intelligence, courage, and administrative ability, Aibak trained and promoted him. Iltutmish eventually married Aibak’s daughter and became one of his most trusted nobles.
