HOW RIVERS WORK
(GEOGRAPHY)
1. Meander Belt
A meander belt is the area across which a river shifts as it develops winding bends called meanders. Over time, erosion on the outer banks and deposition on the inner banks cause the river channel to migrate. The meander belt represents the zone occupied by these changing river curves.
2. Straight River
A straight river channel follows a relatively direct path with few curves. Truly straight rivers are rare in nature because flowing water naturally develops bends over time. Straight channels are usually found in steep regions, artificial canals, or young river courses where erosion and deposition have not yet created meanders.
3. Sinuous River
A sinuous river has gentle curves and bends but is less winding than a fully developed meandering river. It represents
