ANDORRA

1. Capital

Andorra la Vella is the capital and largest city of Andorra, a small European microstate located in the Pyrenees Mountains. Situated at an altitude of about 1,023 metres above sea level, it is recognized as the highest capital city in Europe. The city serves as the country's political, administrative, commercial, and cultural centre. Tourism, banking, and retail shopping are the major economic activities due to low taxation. Surrounded by scenic mountains, Andorra la Vella attracts visitors throughout the year for skiing, hiking, and cultural tourism. It is also home to the national government, parliament, and important public institutions.

2. Currency

The official currency of Andorra is the Euro (EUR). Although Andorra is not a member of the European Union (EU), it uses the Euro through a formal monetary agreement with the EU. This arrangement simplifies trade, tourism, and financial transactions with neighbouring countries such as France and Spain. Before adopting the Euro, Andorra used both the French Franc and the Spanish Peseta. The Euro supports the country's economy, which depends heavily on tourism, banking, and retail trade. Andorra also issues its own Euro collector coins under the monetary agreement, making them popular among coin collectors.

3. Official Language

The official language of Andorra is Catalan, making it the only sovereign country in the world where Catalan is the sole official language. Catalan is used in government administration, education, legal proceedings, and official communication. Due to Andorra's location between France and Spain, many residents also speak Spanish, French, and Portuguese, especially in business and tourism. The government actively promotes the preservation of Catalan as an important part of the country's cultural identity. Knowledge of multiple languages has helped Andorra develop strong tourism and international business sectors while preserving its unique linguistic and cultural heritage.

4. Geographical Location

Andorra is a landlocked European microstate located in the eastern Pyrenees Mountains, between France to the north and Spain to the south. Covering an area of approximately 468 square kilometres, it is one of Europe's smallest independent countries. Its mountainous terrain consists of valleys, rivers, forests, and high peaks, making it a popular destination for skiing, hiking, and adventure tourism. Despite its small size, Andorra enjoys a high standard of living and a strong economy based on tourism, banking, and retail trade.
