TEN CRITICAL QUESTIONS ON CURRENT GEOPLOITICAL AND NATIONAL ISSUES – 221
Q1. Recent attacks on oil tankers carrying Indian sailors near the Strait of Hormuz have raised concerns about maritime security. Should India take a stronger military role in protecting international shipping?
Answer: Sir/Ma'am, India should strengthen maritime security, but military action must be carefully balanced with diplomacy. The Strait of Hormuz is important for India's energy imports and international trade. Attacks on commercial ships can threaten Indian sailors and increase oil prices. India should improve maritime surveillance, share intelligence and cooperate with regional navies. However, unilateral military escalation may increase tensions. India should support freedom of navigation and international law while maintaining communication with Iran, Gulf countries and the United States. My view is that India's priority should be protecting its citizens and economic interests through credible maritime preparedness, regional cooperation and diplomatic de-escalation.
Q2. The Quad is increasingly focusing on critical minerals and supply chains. Is it becoming an economic-security partnership rather than merely a strategic grouping?
