TEN CRITICAL QUESTIONS ON CURRENT GEOPLOITICAL AND NATIONAL ISSUES – 218
Q1. The Supreme Court has questioned the Election Commission's procedures for electoral-roll revision. How should India balance electoral accuracy with the constitutional rights of voters?
Answer: Sir/Ma'am, electoral accuracy and voter inclusion are equally important for democracy. The Election Commission must remove duplicate, deceased and ineligible entries, but eligible citizens should not lose their voting rights because of procedural difficulties. Technology can identify possible errors, but final decisions should involve proper verification. Every affected voter should receive clear information, sufficient time and an opportunity to correct mistakes. The Election Commission's independence must be accompanied by transparency and accountability. My view is that an accurate electoral roll is not simply one with fewer incorrect entries. It is one that includes every eligible citizen while excluding ineligible entries through fair and lawful procedures.
Q2. India's defence cooperation with the United States is expanding. Can India strengthen this partnership without compromising its strategic autonomy?
