TEN CRITICAL QUESTIONS ON CURRENT GEOPLOITICAL AND NATIONAL ISSUES – 164
1. Why is EOS-05 strategically important for India beyond being another satellite launch?
Answer: EOS-05 is important because it strengthens India's independent and persistent Earth-observation capability. Unlike many low-Earth-orbit satellites that revisit an area periodically, its geosynchronous position allows frequent observation of selected regions. This can improve disaster monitoring, agriculture, environmental assessment and strategic surveillance. In my view, the larger significance is technological sovereignty. Reliable domestic geospatial information reduces dependence on foreign systems during emergencies or security crises. The mission is also significant after earlier GSLV setbacks. However, satellite capability becomes truly useful only when imagery is rapidly converted into actionable information for administrators, farmers, disaster agencies and security institutions.
2. Can India normalise relations with China while the boundary dispute remains unresolved?
