TEN CRITICAL QUESTIONS ON CURRENT GEOPLOITICAL AND NATIONAL ISSUES – 157
1. What does the Nepal flood disaster tell us about India's responsibility as a regional first responder?
Answer: The Nepal disaster shows that India's neighbourhood policy must work during emergencies, not only through diplomatic statements. The death toll has reached 579, while hundreds of Indians remain unaccounted for. India has sent relief supplies, medical personnel and offered NDRF support and Bailey bridges. In my view, India should develop a permanent regional HADR framework with Nepal and other Himalayan neighbours. It should include satellite monitoring, real-time river data, pre-positioned relief material and evacuation protocols. Helping neighbours quickly is both humanitarian responsibility and strategic diplomacy because dependable assistance creates long-term trust.
2. Does India's purchase of Javelin missiles from the U.S. contradict the goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat in defence?
